What is Q Switched Nd Yag Laser?
Q-switched Nd Yag laser produces a beam of energy at a wavelength of 1064nm.
This energy is absorbed by pigmented skin lesions such as freckles, age spots, etc. The laser will shatter the melanin pigment into microparticles. These microparticles are naturally carried away by the bloodstream and eventually removed from the body. The skin pigmentation is then lightened after a few sessions
What can Q-Switched Nd Yag Laser treat?
-
Pigmentations e.g. melasma, freckles, hyperpigmentation and other brown birthmarks
– Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by dark, irregular patches on the face. It is often associated with hormonal changes, such as those occurring during pregnancy or with the use of birth control pills.
– Freckles are small, flat, brown spots that appear on sun-exposed areas of the skin. They are often more prominent in individuals with fair skin and are caused by an accumulation of melanin triggered by sun exposure.
– Hyperpigmentation refers to an overproduction of melanin, leading to darkening of the skin. It can result from various factors, including sun exposure, inflammation, and hormonal changes. Conditions like melasma, acne pigmentation, and age spots fall under the category of hyperpigmentation.
-
Acne marks
Acne marks, also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or post-inflammatory erythema (PIE), are discolourations or changes in skin pigmentation that occur after an acne lesion has healed.
-
Pigmented lesions
Pigmented lesions refer to areas of the skin that have an abnormal or excessive concentration of pigment. These lesions can manifest in various colours, including brown, black, blue, red, or other hues.
-
Vascular lesions
Vascular lesions are abnormalities or conditions that affect blood vessels. These lesions can involve arteries, veins, or capillaries, and they may manifest as visible skin changes, internal organ issues, or a combination of both.
-
Facial Telangiectasia
Facial telangiectasia, also commonly known as spider veins or broken blood vessels on the face, refers to the dilation of small blood vessels near the surface of the skin. These vessels become visible as fine, red lines or clusters of tiny blood vessels, often resembling spider webs or tree branches.
-
Enlarged Pores
Enlarged pores refer to visible openings on the surface of the skin that are larger and more prominent than typical pores. Pores are tiny openings in the skin through which hair follicles emerge and through which oil (sebum) is released.
-
Wrinkles and Fine Lines
Wrinkles and fine lines are common signs of ageing and result from a combination of factors, including the natural ageing process, sun exposure, genetics, and lifestyle choices.
-
Tattoos
Tattoos are forms of body modification in which ink, pigments, or dyes are inserted into the skin’s dermis layer to create permanent designs or patterns.
How many sessions are needed?
The number of treatments varies among patients. Depending on the types of pigmented vascular lesions, this procedure usually takes from 3 to 6 treatments. The pigmentation continues to fade in between each treatment.
Is there any downtime?
You can resume daily activities immediately after the laser. Some patients may only experience mild pinkness flushed on the skin which eases within a few hours.
