EMFACE – Less Wrinkles More Lift
EMFACE Has Arrived!
Ageless Medi-Aesthetics is one of the first two clinics in Singapore to offer EMFACE – a revolution in facial treatment.
By emitting both synchronized RadioFrequency and HIFES energies, it simultaneously treats facial skin and muscles.
EMFACE reverses early signs and is suitable for patients as young as their thirties. The results are enduring, patient satisfaction is high, and there is zero discomfort reported by most patients.
What is facial ageing?
Facial ageing is a multifactorial process involving different facial tissues – skin, fat pads, facial retaining ligaments, muscles and bone. As we age, there is loss of bone, fats and subcutaneous tissues, and laxity of facial ligaments, resulting in loss of structural support for the face. The superficial fat pads in the face start to descend and the facial features start to go down south, resulting in the formation of nasolabial folds, jowls and saggy lower face. Repetitive muscle movements and sun damage also result in the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Loss of structural support due to volume depletion and changes to the facial muscles and their connective tissue framework results in an increased soft tissue laxity which is additionally influenced by the effects of gravity.
Since the facial muscles are interconnected via the fascial system and the overlying skin, weakening of these muscles may result in a visible descent of the tissue as we age. The weaker the facial muscles are and the lower the resting muscle tone, the facial muscles are unable to hold the tissue in place resulting in drooping eyebrows and saggy cheeks.
When the resting muscle tone is increased, the muscles have the strength to hold the overlying tissue in place resulting in lifted eyebrows and firm cheeks.
What is EMFACE?
Our face loses muscle tone and density, facial fat, and bone when we age. Particularly as we enter our thirties, there is a significant decrease in the amount of elastin and collagen produced and preserved. Together, these factors contribute to significant loss of definition of the face, relaxation and descent of the brow and cheeks, and weakening of the support layers like ligaments. Emface reverses these early signs of ageing and is suitable for patients as young as their thirties.
Emface is a revolution in facial treatment that simultaneously targets muscles and skin to tighten, lift, and tone the face and helps restore the facial contours without pain, downtime, or using needles.
Emface is the first US-FDA-cleared and CE-marked non-invasive device on the market that uses synchronized radio frequency and HIFES (high-intensity facial electromagnetics stimulation) technology. The result is less wrinkles and more lift naturally without needles.
How does EMFACE work?
BTL Aesthetics, the maker of Emsculpt Neo, has created a solution using the same technologies for the face. Building on the Emsculpt Neo’s body sculpting treatment, Emface uses science and technology to deliver amazing results in just one easy treatment.
Emface is the first US FDA-cleared and CE-marked non-invasive device on the market utilizing the simultaneous application of both synchronized RF and HIFES energies for non-invasive facial lifting and wrinkle reduction.
Synchronized Radio Frequency remodels and smooths skin by heating the dermis and increasing the levels of collagen and elastin fibres.
The HIFES (High-intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) technology is specifically designed to selectively induce supra-maximal contractions of small delicate muscles in the face. The technology generates strong electrical fields that affect the underlying neuronal and muscle tissue. These electrical fields depolarise the membrane of the motor neurons restoring and elevating support of facial tissues by selectively contracting muscles and increasing the density & quality of muscle structure.
The frontalis muscles are a pair of vertically oriented muscles in the forehead that lift the eyebrows.
The zygomaticus major, zygomaticus minor, and the risorius muscles are responsible for elevating the mid-face. Zygomaticus major muscles control facial expression, drawing the mouth’s angle upward and outward, while the zygomaticus minor muscles draw the upper lip backwards, upward, and outward.
The risorius muscle’s function is to aid in facial expression by pulling the corner of the mouth laterally via its contraction in an outward and upward motion.
Emface results are enduring, patient satisfaction is high, and there are zero discomforts reported by most patients. Plus, during clinical trials, no adverse events were observed or reported during any of the clinical test sites.
In 9 clinical studies, patients enjoyed:
- Wrinkle reduction by 37%
- Increase in muscle tone by 30%
- Facial lifting effect by 23%
- Increase in collagen by 26%
What is the difference between the technologies of EMFACE and EMSCULPT NEO?
Emface utilizes the HIFES (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) technology while Emsculpt Neo uses HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic waves).
HIFES energy can penetrate up to 2cm skin depth. The penetration is dependent on the targeted conductive tissues – nerve fibres and muscles. Currents are applied directly into the tissue and affect muscle innervation. It targets small delicate superficial facial muscles. The applicators are specially designed to allow HIFES to target individual-specific muscles.
While HIFEM energy penetrates 7 – 10cm of the skin. HIFEM induces secondary currents in the muscles and bypasses the thick fat layer to reach the entire thickness of deep muscle groups. Unlike HIFES, HIFEM is designed to affect the whole muscle group.
Does the Radio Frequency in EMFACE cause fat cell death?
The effect of RF in EMFACE on the skin is based on dermal heating When the RF temperature is heated up to 40-42°C, it stimulates an increase in fibroblast activity, and old collagen and elastin fibres decompose and denature, which leads to structural changes within the skin and overall improvement of skin quality rather than fat burning.
Who is a suitable candidate?
Most candidates are suitable for EMFACE. It is ideal for patients seeking facial treatments without injections.
It is beneficial to patients who are concerned about mild laxity, wrinkles, skin plumpness, elastin and collagen loss or fullness in the jawline. It is a more natural solution for younger patients not yet ready for a surgical facelift.
Therefore, for those who do not want to have a facelift, EMFACE is the only option that offers a whole new approach by not only using RF but also HIFES to help enhance muscle tone of the face and lift specific areas of laxity at the cheeks, jawline and forehead.
What is the treatment protocol?
The EMFACE protocol is one 20-minute treatment every week for four
weeks. Some maintenance treatments may be needed,
depending on individual skin conditions and expectations.
Toning the frontalis muscles of the forehead results in the smoothing of the forehead, a reduction of the horizontal wrinkles and lifting of the eyebrows. In addition, reinforcing the zygomaticus major, minor and risorius muscles leads to a reduction of the depth of nasolabial folds.
Does EMFACE treatment hurt and is there any downtime?
Absolutely not. EMFACE is completely non-invasive and requires no recovery time or treatment preparation.
During the treatment, you can expect to feel a facial muscle massage with warming sensations and pulsations. You will feel tangible results right after the treatments.
How long does the effects of EMFACE last?
Generally speaking, 4 sessions of EMFACE at weekly intervals can last between 6 to 9 months. Boosting sessions of EMFACE to maintain the good effects may be required at 2-3 months intervals for optimal results. For more elderly patients with more sagginess, more sessions of EMFACE eg 6 sessions may be needed for optimal results
In a recent study by Dr. Yael Halaas, a US cosmetic surgeon, the results of Emface can last up to 12 months, depending on the individual’s skin condition.
How many sessions of EMFACE do I need?
For optimal results, we recommend a minimum of four sessions, spaced at 1 per week, but more sessions can be added if desired.
Will EMFACE negate the effects of Botulinum toxin injections?
EMFACE will not negate the effects of Botulinum toxins as the applicators are targeted at the elevators of the forehead which is the frontalis muscles and the mid-face which are the zygomaticus minor, major and risorius muscles, sparing the depressors. The effects of Botulinum toxins injections which are injected into the depressors of the face, namely the procerus, corrugator supercilli and Orbicularis Oculi muscles to relax and soften the Glabellar frown lines and Crow’s feet, complement EMFACE treatment which reduces the horizontal forehead wrinkles.
The HIFES technology selectively targets the facial muscles and fascia to increase the resting muscle tone, therefore helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Can we combine EMFACE with filler injections?
Yes. You may still have fillers after EMFACE. Fillers help to restore facial volume loss, while EMFACE tones and lifts the face and at the same time, rejuvenates the skin for overall improvement in skin quality. The combination treatments of EMFACE and filler complement each other.
